NEUTI BEACH PLACE TO VISITE IN KOCHRA...<3

Nivati Beach is located in the village of Nivati, which stands on the southern side of Sindhudurga Fort. The beach is situated close to the villages of Bhogva and Kochra, popular fishing villages of the region.




Offers peace and serenity to independent travelers.
 Adjoining the beach is a twin village Kochara which offers wonderful view of small tropical oasis on Nivti shore.

The crystal clear water of the ocean and pleasant atmosphere attracts a large number of tourists to the beach throughout the year.


Fishermen seen launching their traditional boats and nets daily into the sea is an interesting feature to watch on this beach.


Local material...

  • Laterite Stone is commonly used for construction purpose, commonly known as CHIRA. Paddy, husk ash, saw dust and processed fly ash were used as other constituents and added to the laterite stone.
  • Also BLACK STONE is used for construction.

Coconut leafs is design in such a way that they use it for roofing & even for door & window opening.

They even have mud or cow dung thatched over it with a very common sloping Mangalore tiled roof.



ARCHITECTURE TYPOLOGY

  • Konkan Architecture is influenced by nature. It is sustainable, cost effective. Architecture of Konkan is not monumental or iconic.
  •  One can always see cluster of house in adjacent to each other.
  •  It’s interesting to stop. Each of this houses has its own touch, it’s own unique combination of colour, coustomised space allotment. 
  • After all its Architecture is for the people by the people.
  • Even though there is abundant space is available to build upon, most of this house is forming irregular cluster. There are social geographical reason behind it. 
  • These house share common amenities such as Aangan, Tulsivrundavan, Well, Backyard, etc.

Chulla

No gas was available for cooking, so they commonly use chulla which is made up of mud & for firing they use wood.

Present condition of kochra village


  • At present the condition of KOCHRA is very critical. 
  • Most of the villagers are migrating to cities in search of employment and for better source of income.
  • The average income is nearly 2-3 thousand per month.
  • The major occupation is fish farming, farming, coconut, mango, kaju and metty kokum. 
  • Literacy rate in KOCHRA is around 80%.

History of kochra...!!!




  • Village is the unit of rural society. It is veritable theatre of Social-Cultural rural life.
  • Indeed, through the functions of the village community the essence of rural life unfolds here.
  •  Every Indian village is a historical category.
  • The emergence of a village in the flow of time remains etched in the memory of villagers, through the oral tradition.
  • KOCHRA village is agro-centric. It is tried up with the history of agricultural economy.
  • KOCHRA has its own history. Earlier Sindhudurg was part of Ratnagiri and it later separated.
  • One of two girls school lied in this area was in KOCHARA.
  • There existed a dam known as “ GANESH DAM” which was built 200 years ago. It was around 500 meters long.
  • In 1975 government tried to reconstruct it but it was unsuccessful. Because of the incomplete dam KOCHRA still has 300 acre of land which is not in use.
  • In 1982 the SARPANCH of KOCHRA “Mr. LAVU GAWDE was the first person to start fish farming in KOCHRA as well as MAHARASHTRA.”
  • The first school which was started it was the girls school.
