India is a developing
country. The numbers of villages in India are more than towns and cities. Sixty-Five
percent of Indian population lives in villages. A village is free from the
hustle and bustle of a city life. Life in a village is peaceful, calm
and quite. The natural beauty and the greenery are a feast for the eyes.
There are village Panchayats and village heads to look after the affair of the
village.
- The name of our village is KOCHRA, SINDHUDURG district, KONKAN situated in costal belt of western state of MAHARASHTRA in INDIA.
- It is the land between the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea.
- Total area of KOCHRA is 954 hectares.
- Population is around 2408, men are 1117 and women are 1291. Women population is more in this village.
- Language mainly spoken is KONKANI.
- Journey through this region is interesting because of variation in land. After descending some miles from zigzag mountain road one come across part of paddy field, small settlement generally known as wadi such as Chavatawadi, Shriramwadi, Bhatwadi, Harijanwadi, Varchiwadi, Kharnathwadi, Gavdewadi, Matwadi , Bhavaiwadi, Bhatwadi, Rameshwarwadi, Silamwadi, Aagarwadi, Maynewadi, Nivati etc. there are total 14 wadis which are divided as per caste.
- We can see cluster of houses standing adjacent to each other as if they are integrated.
- We met the SARPANCH of the KOCHRA Mr. YASHWANT GOSAVI, he just gave the relative information about the people and life of the KOCHRA. We also met last SARPANCH Mr.LAVU GAWDE he gave vast information about the village KOCHRA last from the history to the today’s KOCHRA.
