History of kochra...!!!




  • Village is the unit of rural society. It is veritable theatre of Social-Cultural rural life.
  • Indeed, through the functions of the village community the essence of rural life unfolds here.
  •  Every Indian village is a historical category.
  • The emergence of a village in the flow of time remains etched in the memory of villagers, through the oral tradition.
  • KOCHRA village is agro-centric. It is tried up with the history of agricultural economy.
  • KOCHRA has its own history. Earlier Sindhudurg was part of Ratnagiri and it later separated.
  • One of two girls school lied in this area was in KOCHARA.
  • There existed a dam known as “ GANESH DAM” which was built 200 years ago. It was around 500 meters long.
  • In 1975 government tried to reconstruct it but it was unsuccessful. Because of the incomplete dam KOCHRA still has 300 acre of land which is not in use.
  • In 1982 the SARPANCH of KOCHRA “Mr. LAVU GAWDE was the first person to start fish farming in KOCHRA as well as MAHARASHTRA.”
  • The first school which was started it was the girls school.
